This is stupid- you are NOT ALLOWED as an employer to ask a candidate if they are here legally. If they provide the correct documents from column A and/or column B that's all they have to do. You cannot ask for a green card. Ms Allred should know that- I'm sure she does, she's just a big fat parasite.

There was just a ruling in AZ that a college asked for green cards before employing a bunch of people over the years, and now they have to pay penalties for doing so because it's illegal.

The stupider thing is, the government issues drivers licenses to anybody- they don't check on the validity of shit and somehow the employer is supposed to have more knowledge about the status of a potential person than the government?

They have e-verify now, but it did not exist 10 years ago when this happened.

The whole immigration/employment situation is stupid.

What in the hell are you talking about? We (The State of California) require and demand proof of eligibility to work for every single candidate being considered. Social security number, green card, work visa or whatever.

Do you just make this shit up as you go along?

OK, so the person provided a Social Security card, Whitman made a copy and kept it on file.

Whitman has released the employment applications filled out when the housekeeper was hired in 2000, including a copy of a Social Security card and a California driver's license, that indicated the woman was a legal resident.

So if you demand proof of eligibility, and receive it, then what do you do?
